Great Walks booking opening day: what actually happens

DOC sells Great Walk hut and campsite nights through bookings.doc.govt.nz. Each season DOC runs a primary online release for the coming Great Walks season; logged-in users are placed in a waiting lobby before the published release time (see DOC’s own announcements for dates).

Before the lobby opens

• Create and verify a DOC account, and save a payment card, before release day.
• Know your preferred walk, direction (where the track allows it), party size and backup date ranges.
• Log in before the published release time — late logins join the back of the queue.

When you miss out on opening morning
