Milford Track

Known as one of the finest walks in the world, the Milford Track is a 53.5km journey through the heart of Fiordland National Park. The track starts at Glade Wharf (Lake Te Anau) and finishes at Sandfly Point in Milford Sound.

The Milford Track has been walked since the 1880s.

The Milford Track is one of the hardest Great Walks to book. Peak-season hut places are often taken soon after bookings open for the season.

What affects availability

• Limited daily numbers: only 40 independent walkers can start the track each day
• One direction only: the track is walked from Glade Wharf to Sandfly Point, so each start date has a fixed set of hut nights
• Weather: Fiordland weather can lead to changed plans and late cancellations
